How we help seniors

Renovating a home for senior citizens requires special considerations to make the space safe and accessible, such as installing grab bars, non-slip flooring, and visual and auditory aids.

Special attention should be given to specific problems with layout for individuals with mobility or visual/auditory difficulties.

In terms of the Ontario Seniors Home Renovation some of seniors are eligible to receive part of home renovation expenses aimed at improving accessibility or safety in the home. It's a good idea to consult with a professional to ensure that the renovations meet the criteria for the tax credit and to get advice on the best approaches for meeting the specific needs of the senior citizens.

For 2021 and 2022, individuals 65 years of age or older, who are homeowners or renters and people who live with relatives who are such seniors can benefit from a refundable tax credit equal to 25% of eligible renovation expenses to a maximum of $10,000 (maximum credit of $2,500).
